Born in Indiana in 1966, being the youngest of the Jackson clan might have daunted lesser siblings, but not Janet. She saw what they achieved and set out to better it. Janet first appeared on stage with the Jackson Five aged seven, and spent her childhood acting in sitcoms like Good Times and Diff'Rent Strokes. She released a couple of albums prior to Control, which set her on her way to becoming one of the biggest pop and R&B stars of the 1980s and 1990s. The breakthrough hit spawned singles What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty and When I Think Of You. Her later releases saw her embracing a more sultry image, with tunes and dance moves to match. Teamed with writers/producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the winning formula continued and Jackson banged out the R&B funk with relish. Hits like That's The Way Love Goes, Rhythm Nation and All For You followed, along with duets with brother Michael on 1995's Scream, and Luther Vandross on 1992's The Best Things In Life Are Free. In between times, Jackson has taken time out to be a movie star, get married and divorced and recover from some troubled times with the assistance of coffee enemas. She's still a force to be reckoned with though, and publicity for 2004  album Damita Jo wasn't too harmed by her breast revelation while on stage with Justin Timberlake at the Superbowl. Following a difficult year for the Jacksons in 2009, Janet released her hit-stuffed The Best compilation in December.
