Michael Jackson

Once upon a time there was a young, fresh-voiced prince of Motown, part of a family outfit called the Jackson Five. They were celebrated and known throughout the land. Michael grew up and embarked upon a solo quest. He was triumphant and in his glory he blew the world - and all previous pop stars - away. With an ingenious blend of rock guitar riffs, funky Motown authenticity and viral dance beats, Jackson didn't just transform the face of music, he literally overtook it. He danced like the devil and conjured the power of MTV to his own devices. Truly he became the King of Pop. He ruled his kingdom not with an iron fist but with a white glove, and his featherweight voice bit or purred, depending on how he felt. He built himself a castle and surrounded himself with strange animals. For years his dominance was unquestioned. But with absolute power can come absolute corruption, and as Jackson's continued fall from grace is played out on TV and tabloids around the world, we look at his scarred and ruined face and remember what was and could have been. As we grow up, we learn that not all fairy stories have happy endings. So it came to pass that on June 25th 2009 Jackson died of a heart attack, aged just 50 years old. Like all great artists, it seems that Jacko's troubled life was destined to be cut short. He leaves behind three children and a mourning fanbase worldwide.
