The Alarm
The Alarm formed in 1981 in Rhyl, Wales and were a part of a wave of bands (like Big Country, The Call and also U2) that specialized in something that could be described as punk-inspired righteous to messianic class struggle rock anthems, often adorned with a folk angle. They started off as an outfit called Seventeen but changed their name when they moved to London to self-release their first single, “Unsafe Building”. Their debut album, “Declaration”, saw release in 1984 and spawned the hit song “Sixty-Eight Guns”. Their 1985 follow-up, “Strength”, is considered their best effort ever.
