The Wonder Stuff
The synth pop legend Thomas Dolby was born Thomas Morgan Robertson in Cairo, Egypt on October 14, 1958 as the son of a British archeologist. He received the nickname Dolby in school since he had the habit of creating his own synthesizers. Dolby soon worked as a sound engineer for acts such as The Fall, and wrote the hit song “New Toy” for Lene Lovich (1981). His debut album, “The Golden Age of Wireless”, saw release in 1982 and was successful in the UK. Thomas Dolby’s 1983 recording “She Blinded Me With Science” became a hit, in part due to heavy MTV airplay.
